The Most Anticipated Video Game of All Time
Okay, as a die-hard Beatles fan I’ll admit that this is a little bias. The remaining Beatles (and their estates) have historically had a tight hold on their musical rights, especially since re-acquiring them from Michael Jackson. Although I do remember a horrid car commercial featuring “Come Together,” The Beatles have been rather reserved. But then I Am Sam came out, with a soundtrack stocked with Beatles covers. And then came along Across The Universe, a movie based entirely on Beatles music, and Love, a Cirque de Soleil show. So I guess I (and you readers) have those to thank for finally bringing Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, et al to their senses.
Let me give it to you guys straight. The Beatles are coming to Rock Band. This won’t be like Guitar Hero: Metallica or Aerosmith or any of that. Harmonix, the main developer behind the game, is going in a completely direction. Not only will you be able to play over 40 Beatles songs (original recordings!), you can do so with replicas of their instruments. The game will likely run for about $60, or $250 for the whole set. And that’s not all. By playing this game, you won’t just be playing as The Beatles, you will BECOME The Beatles.
The game starts off with them in their Liverpool days, and gradually progresses through their career (Hamburgh, Sgt. Pepper’s, etc). The avatars representing The Beatles will likely change along with the era, so the game “ages” with your career. With less than six months untill its release, there is still limited information on the game, so this is all I’ve heard. However, the game has full support by Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, as well as Beatle widows Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison. Giles Martin, whose father George was often called the “fifth Beatle” (he produced all but one album), will be producing the album. So I have to admit, I’m pretty damn excited. More than I’ve ever been for anything, regardless of cost (travel most likely included because Quebec hates Rock Band), it will be in my possession just 132 days from now.
July 7th 2007 (07/07/07) was a day of many weddings and casino trips. The Beijing Olympics started on August 8th, 2008 (08/08/08) because the number eight is lucky in Chinese culture. On September 9th, 2009 (09/09/09 in case you haven’t caught on,) music video games will be changed forever. Only 132 days away.
